Former Nigerian COAS, General Chris Alli, passes away at the age of 79

Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, in his capacity as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Nigerian Army in response to the lamentable passing of retired Maj.-Gen. Chris Alli, a distinguished former COAS.

Born on December 25, 1944, in Koton Karfe, Kogi, Gen. Alli commenced his military journey on October 20, 1967, as a member of the Emergency Short Service Combatant Course.

Throughout his career, he held key positions, including Director, Military Intelligence (DMI), and even served as the Military Administrator of Plateau.

Upon learning of Gen. Alli’s passing, COAS Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja expressed profound condolences to the late COAS’s family, friends, and colleagues.

The statement mentioned that prayers are extended for the repose of Gen. Alli’s soul and for strength and solace for his family during this challenging time.

He said ” The legacy of Gen. Chris Alli, marked by his honorable service and enduring impact, stands as a testament to his remarkable career in the Nigerian Army.”
