The former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdurrasheed Bawa, is mourning the loss of his mother, Hajiya Hadiza Ahmed Bawa, who passed away recently.Â
Although details surrounding her death remain unclear, it has been reported that she died on Wednesday night in Sokoto.
Bawa confirmed the sad news to Newsmen though he did not provide much detail. “She died in UDUTH Sokoto and will be buried in Jega, Kebbi inshaAllah around 2:30 pm,” he briefly stated during a phone call with Press.
Arrangements are currently underway to transport her remains from Sokoto to Kebbi State, where the funeral rites are expected to take place later on Thursday.
Abdurrasheed Bawa, who made history as the first civilian to serve as the substantive Chairman of the EFCC, was appointed to the position on February 16, 2021, following his nomination and confirmation by the National Assembly. However, in July 2023, Bawa was suspended from office by President Bola Tinubu.
In the meantime, the family, friends, and well-wishers are preparing for the burial in Jega, Kebbi State, where final respects will be paid to Hajiya Hadiza Ahmed Bawa.
