Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has called for further reinforcements despite reports that the club has reached an agreement to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri for £65 million.
Flick believes Barcelona still need more depth to compete strongly across all competitions next season. The German coach reportedly told the club’s media team that he wanted to add more players before the transfer window closes.
The call came after Barcelona’s 5 2 pre season victory over Basel, where several key players returned to action, including Lamine Yamal.
Flick was pleased with the performance but admitted there were areas that needed improvement, particularly the team’s movement and speed in possession.
The News Chronicle reports that the arrival of Rodri would certainly help strengthen Barcelona’s midfield, but Flick is determined to create a squad able to cope with La Liga and the Champions League.
Barcelona are now preparing for the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Al Ahly, while they will be facing Elche in their opening La Liga clash on August 23.
Flick is also closely monitoring those players who only returned to training for pre-season, and the coach is likely to continue with rotation for the early stages of the campaign.
