I mean, you could meet someone for the first and in less than thirty seconds, our brain processes information about the person’s face—which leads to quick conclusions about the person’s qualities, including their trustworthiness, competency, friendliness, honesty and morality.

You see the old saying that “Never getting a second chance to make a first impression?” It is still very true. And the good news is that you don’t have to be the smartest or the most attractive, or finest to make a mark on the people you get to know. There are people who have all these qualities naturally. But, there are those who have to work on some skills to make a positive first impression.

When meeting someone for the first time, a smile goes a long way in creating a long lasting impression of being friendly and approachable. Frowning your face would only give the person the impression that you are not approachable and they should keep their distance. So, learn how to smile often when you are meeting someone for the first time. Even if it is a job interview, the moment you step inside the office, smile.

No matter who are talking or listening to, always focus on making eye contact. Aside the fact that the eyes are the mirror of the soul, keeping an eye contact with the person you are talking to has a way of showing security in your person and interest in the other.
