Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has asked the wives of the 36 state governors to choose one college or university and 100 farmers from their states for help from the Renewed Hope Initiative, in which out of the 100 farmers, 25 should be men and 75 should be women.
“You are to provide the 75 young women and 25 young men who are already into farming or are ready to go into farming”.
The Tertiary Education Trust Fund and the Renewed Hope Initiative joined hands to improve schools and help people learn better.
Mrs. Tinubu spoke at a meeting with Renewed Hope Initiative Zonal and State Coordinators, who are the wives of state governors.
She said, “Pick a college or university in your state, it can be owned by the government or by the country. The help will come in phases, starting with each zone.”
“You are to nominate a tertiary institution in your state, it could be Federal or state-owned. The first phase of this intervention would be per zone,”
Mrs. Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, shared this information. Mrs. Tinubu believes education can help women and girls make good choices about their health and other things.
She asked the governors’ wives to make sure their states benefit from these programs because the people will gain from it directly.
The First Lady also talked about a partnership between the RHI and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to help 100 farmers in each state.
These farmers should be mostly young women, along with some young men, who are already farming or want to start.
She told the governors’ wives to motivate young people in their states to join the Unity Fabric competition. It offers a prize of N25m.
The meeting also discussed the ongoing Every Home a Garden competition. It encourages first-time women farmers to grow a garden at home to have enough food for themselves and their neighbors.
Mrs. Tinubu said that the Women in Agriculture Support Program started in Imo State and will happen in other parts of the country. Ogun State’s turn is on April 16.
The meeting was also a chance for the first lady to wish all Muslims well during the Ramadan fast and pray for peace and growth in Nigeria.
