Fire from gas consumes 18 shops in Iju Ishaga, Lagos

—

On Tuesday night, around 10 pm, a fire explosion occurred at Agbado Road, Toyin Bus stop, Iju Ishaga, Lagos State. The explosion consumed 18 shops and, fortunately, did not cause any reported casualties or injuries.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service swiftly responded to the emergency and effectively managed to contain the fire, preventing its further spread as a Kerosene Petroleum Filling Station was located close to the fire circumference.

According to a statement released by Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the incident was triggered by the off-loading of six gas cylinders, each weighing 75-50(kg), from a stationary mini truck to a gas shop. The compromised head cap of one of these cylinders led to an accidental explosion, igniting the fire.

The fire quickly spread across the street, engulfing the shops along with their contents and the mini truck. The spread to the other end of the street was facilitated by one of the gas cylinders, which traveled over.

Despite the extensive damage caused by the fire, the situation is now calm as the fire is under control. Ongoing efforts include dampening down to ensure further explosions are prevented, and the scene of the incident is being cleaned up.
