A FIFA delegation is expected in Abuja today as the world football body resumes efforts to address the leadership crisis rocking the Nigeria Football Federation.
The visitors are expected to hold talks with government officials, National Sports Commission and other stakeholders on the restoration of a functional NFF Congress after the resignations of NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi and several board members in the wake of widespread calls for fundamental reforms in the ruling corporate structure.

The News Chronicle reports that the FIFA officials will hold discussions with Government agencies and private stakeholders on a possible roadmap towards restoring a functional NFF Congress.
The delegation will examine the circumstances surrounding the mass resignations, proposed changes to the NFF statutes, the federation’s electoral process and plans for a fresh elective congress. FIFA is also expected to assess the role of government in Nigerian football administration.
The crisis intensified after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, alongside the Super Falcons’ failure to secure a place at next year’s Women’s World Cup. The Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles also missed their respective competitions.
FIFA’s immediate challenge will be finding a succession process acceptable to the various stakeholders while creating a more stable structure for Nigerian football.
