FIFA Ranking: Super Eagles Drop 8 Places Following Recent Struggles

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped to 38th from their previous 30th spot in the current FIFA ranking. Nigeria, whose ranking in CAF skyrocketed to 3rd place following their transcendent campaign in the just-concluded AFCON, has lost its spot, dropping to 5th place with 1498.93 points, a decrease from their previous 1520.27 points.
The massive drop is traced to their recent struggles in the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic after the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, where they finished as runners-up to Côte d’Ivoire in the final.
The top three remain unshakeable. Argentina (1st) retains its place at the summit, with France (2nd) and Belgium (3rd) hot on its heels. But there is movement behind them, as Brazil (4th, up 1) and England (5th, down 1) swap places. Meanwhile, Portugal (6th), the Netherlands (7th), and Spain (8th) consolidate their spots in the top ten, while Croatia (9th, up 1) overtakes Italy (10th, down 1), who nonetheless hold onto a place among the leading pack.
Liberia has the biggest climb as they move 10 places up with 37.47 points and are now ranked 142nd in the world.
Equatorial Guinea faced the biggest drop; they fell to 89th place with 1260.5 points.
