FIFA President Opposes Blue Card

FIFA President, Infantino, opposes the Blue Card’s introduction in football. Last month, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) proposed testing the Blue Card in domestic tournaments like the FA Cup and League Cup, pending approval from the FA. However, Infantino has expressed his disapproval, stating that FIFA is entirely against the idea. He emphasized that he was unaware of the proposal and stressed the importance of maintaining the game’s tradition and essence.

“This is a topic that is non-existent for us. Fifa is completely opposed to blue cards. I was not aware of this topic, the president of FIFA – and I think FIFA has a say in IFAB. No way. We have to be serious. We are always open to looking at ideas and proposals and everything has to be treated with respect, of course. But once you look at it, you also have to protect the essence and tradition of the game. There is no blue card.”

The Blue Card, intended for players who dissent against referees or commit cynical fouls, would have resulted in a 10-minute sin-bin trial.
