FG to distribute 42,000 metric tonnes of grains free to Nigerians to combat hunger

As hunger becomes more severe in the country because prices for food are going up a lot, the Federal Government is planning to give out at least 42,000 metric tonnes of different grains to Nigerians so they can have enough food to eat.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, said this during a press conference in Abuja.

He said President Bola Tinubu’s government is worried about how expensive food has become and wants to help people get food at prices they can afford.

The minister said they are working with security agencies and emergency management to make sure the grains get to the people who need them without any problems.

Aside from giving out grains, the government is also trying to produce more food so there won’t be a shortage and prices won’t be so high anymore.

They want to work with governors of all the states to find real farmers who can benefit from support to grow more food.

The minister mentioned some new plans like growing wheat on 120,000 hectares of land and having 150,000 farmers grow rice in different parts of the country this year.

He also said that floods, insecurity, and the fast-growing population are making it harder to have enough food for everyone.

Minister of information, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, explained that the press conference was meant to let the media know about the government’s plans and what they are doing to make things better.

He said they want to build trust, share information about policies and programs, and create a good environment for the media to do their work.

“You will hear first-hand about what the Federal Government is doing, policies, programs, targets and objectives, and you will be able to ask questions and receive relevant clarifications. We have also made efforts to ensure that this Briefing Series receives the widest possible coverage, through traditional and digital platforms,” the minister explained
