Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has dismissed swirling reports of an imminent political realignment, insisting that no final decision has been taken about his next move amid deepening turmoil within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement made available to The News Chronicle, the former Kano governor accused sections of the media of pushing “misleading narratives” about his political future and that of his allies.
Kwankwaso pointed to mounting legal battles destabilising the ADC, noting that while the Supreme Court affirmed the legitimacy of the David Mark-led National Working Committee, it also sent the matter back to the High Court, leaving the party in what he described as a “precarious position.”
He further cited a recent Federal High Court ruling that invalidated the party’s convention, alongside a controversial move by the Attorney General of the Federation to seek the ADC’s deregistration.
Drawing parallels with his exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Kwankwaso warned that similar externally influenced legal challenges now threaten the ADC.
The former defence minister revealed that he and other key stakeholders have begun wide consultations across political blocs, including the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP)—to chart a way forward.
“We shall announce our decision in the soonest possible time,” he said.
Addressing speculation about a 2027 presidential bid, Kwankwaso firmly denied declaring interest or endorsing any candidate, stressing that the ADC has yet to zone its ticket.
He underscored his track record of party loyalty, recalling how he backed Muhammadu Buhari after finishing second in the 2014 APC primaries, and later supported Atiku Abubakar in 2019 after losing the PDP ticket.
“I have always placed national interest and party unity above personal ambition,” he stated.
Kwankwaso also addressed his absence from recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings, attributing it to unavoidable personal commitments and noting that he had formally notified party leaders.
He assured supporters that consultations are ongoing and that any final decision on his political direction will be officially communicated at the appropriate time.
