FG Sets Stage for Teachers’ Summit 2026 to Shake Up Education

The Federal Government has rolled out plans for the Nigeria Teachers’ Summit 2026, a two-day gathering slated for Tuesday and Wednesday, aimed at pushing teachers to the frontline of ongoing education reforms.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education.

Boriowo said the summit is designed to reinforce the pivotal role of teachers, positioning them as the heartbeat of education transformation and long-term sustainability in Nigeria.

She explained that the summit, themed “Empowering Teachers, Strengthening the System,” will serve as a melting pot for critical conversations around teachers’ welfare, professionalism, quality of instruction and improved learning outcomes.

According to her, the event will draw a wide spectrum of participants, including teachers, policymakers, lawmakers, development partners, civil society groups, parents, the media and private sector players.

She disclosed that the opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja, with the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, set to deliver the keynote address.

Boriowo added that the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, will deliver special remarks at the event.

She noted that a major attraction of the summit will be the celebration of excellence in teaching, with awards lined up for top-performing teachers from the six geopolitical zones, as well as the overall best teacher nationwide.

According to her, the recognition is expected to restore pride to the teaching profession, reward hard work and spur teachers on as critical engines of national development.

She further revealed that the summit will also witness the unveiling of the Edurevamp Online Teacher Professional Development Portal, aimed at widening access to continuous learning and career growth opportunities for teachers across the country.
