As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and align its operations with Nigeria’s national development priorities, the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that every young Nigerian who participates in the scheme has a dignified, safe, and rewarding experience.
The Minister stated that the NYSC remains more than a rite of passage for graduates, describing it as a vital national institution that shapes character, promotes national unity, and prepares young Nigerians for responsible citizenship and service to the nation.
He noted that the relevance of the scheme must be sustained through continuous reforms that reflect current realities and the aspirations of Nigerian youth.
To underscore this commitment, Comrade Olawande, accompanied by the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General O. O. Nafiu, visited the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to assess ongoing registration processes and welfare arrangements for corps members.
The visit provided the opportunity to evaluate facilities on ground and ensure that established standards are being maintained.
During the inspection, the Minister noted that the focus of the visit was on improving operational efficiency, strengthening welfare and safety measures, and ensuring a smooth orientation process for corps members.
He stressed that adequate welfare and security remain central to sustaining the confidence of Nigerian youths and their families in the NYSC scheme.
Comrade Olawande further emphasized that as a longstanding national institution, the NYSC must continue to uphold credibility, integrity, and excellence in service delivery.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve to ensure that the scheme remains a credible platform that truly serves the interests of Nigerian youth while contributing meaningfully to national development.
