FG Launches Digitalization of Public Schools to Transform Education

—

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has officially launched the Digitalization of Public Schools Initiative in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.

The initiative was unveiled by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Maruf Alausa, marking a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to modernizing Nigeria’s basic education system through technology-driven learning.

According to the Minister, the Digitalization of Public Schools Initiative represents a bold step toward transforming public basic education by integrating digital tools and resources into classroom instruction.

He emphasized that the project aims to equip teachers and learners with 21st-century digital skills that will improve teaching outcomes, enhance creativity, and foster global competitiveness among Nigerian pupils.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to bridging the digital divide across schools, particularly in rural and underserved communities, through strategic partnerships and infrastructure development. He noted that technology is a critical enabler of inclusive and equitable education, in line with the Federal Government’s broader Education for Renewed Hope agenda.

The Executive Secretary of UBEC, in his remarks, highlighted that the initiative will introduce smart classrooms, e-learning platforms, digital literacy training for teachers, and resource hubs to support curriculum delivery across public schools.

He further explained that UBEC will work closely with state universal basic education boards (SUBEBs) to ensure effective implementation and sustainability.

Education stakeholders at the event commended the federal government for prioritizing innovation in the education sector, describing the digitalization effort as a timely intervention that will reposition Nigeria’s basic education system for the future.

The launch marks a new chapter in Nigeria’s pursuit of quality, accessible, and technology-enabled education for every child.
