The Federal Government has approved an increase in the feeding budget for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during their orientation course.
The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this while addressing members of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream One at the Cross River State NYSC Orientation Camp in Obubra.
Nafiu said the Budget Office had been notified of the upward review, adding that implementation was expected to begin next year.
He urged corps members to manage their finances responsibly, avoid extravagant spending and cultivate disciplined savings habits.
The director-general also commended Nigerian youths for their resilience and commitment to national service.
On safety, Nafiu advised corps members to avoid travelling after 6 p.m., urging them to suspend their journeys and continue the following day when necessary.
“Refrain from resting in public places and avoid sleeping in groups at filling stations, as this makes you easily identifiable.
“Proceed to military installations, police stations or DSS offices, and contact the NYSC hotline,” he advised.

He further assured the corps members that efforts would be intensified to engage relevant stakeholders in establishing and rehabilitating infrastructure at the Obubra Orientation Camp.
Nafiu also encouraged them to acquire practical skills that would improve their employability and create opportunities for self-reliance after their service year.

“Acquire skills in fields that will benefit you, such as cosmetology, traditional hairstyling techniques and similar disciplines,” he said.
Earlier, the NYSC Cross River State Coordinator, Mrs Adejoke Oyenuga, described the director-general’s visit as a demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of corps members.
Presenting an assessment of the camp, Oyenuga said 1,064 corps members had registered for the orientation exercise, adding that they had all successfully adapted to the camp’s structured environment.
