FCT No Longer Safe Haven for Vandals, NSCDC Warns

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has warned vandals to steer clear of public infrastructure, declaring that Abuja is no longer a safe haven for those who destroy government assets.

FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, gave the warning on Monday, urging residents to take an active role in protecting critical national assets and stressing that safeguarding public infrastructure is a shared responsibility.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Odumosu said the government cannot secure public facilities on its own and called on residents to develop a sense of collective ownership.

“Security operations are intelligence-driven; therefore, we rely heavily on credible information from members of the public.

“Whenever residents notice suspicious movements or activities around critical infrastructure, such information should be promptly reported to the NSCDC,” he said.

The commandant noted that vandalism poses a serious threat to national development and added that the corps remains committed to protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI).

“As the lead agency responsible for protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, we are always ready to respond swiftly once credible information is received,” he said.

Odumosu said the Federal Government, through the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, had invested heavily in upgrading infrastructure across the nation’s capital and would not allow criminals to undermine those efforts.

“We cannot allow criminal elements to sabotage these investments by destroying public facilities.

“I want to make it clear that the FCT is no longer a safe haven for vandals. They should either desist from these criminal acts or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.

“We have maintained 24-hour surveillance across the territory, and anyone caught vandalizing public infrastructure will be arrested and prosecuted,” he warned.

He reaffirmed that the NSCDC would continue to clamp down on illegal activities, stressing that the command would not compromise in its mandate to protect public assets.
