El-Rufai Denies Claim on 2027 Presidency, Calls Report Fake

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has denied reports circulating on social media claiming that he said the South should produce Nigeria’s president in 2027.
The viral reports also alleged that El-Rufai, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), was supporting Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, instead of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Reacting on Monday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, El-Rufai described the claims as false and misleading.
He said he never made such comments in any speech, interview, or on his verified social media platforms.
According to him, it is wrong to attribute opinions or articles written by others to him, even if he shares them online to encourage national discussion.
El-Rufai stressed the importance of verifying information before publishing or sharing it, warning that the spread of fake news harms society.
He criticised what he described as irresponsible politicking and the misuse of social media to spread falsehoods.
He urged journalists, editors, and social media users to act responsibly and always confirm information, adding that no opinion should be linked to him unless he clearly expressed it on his official platforms or in interviews with credible media organisations.
