Eight UniJos Students Die in Tragic Accident on Zaria Road

Tragedy struck in Jos on Thursday when eight students from the University of Jos (UNIJOS) died in a terrible motor accident along Zaria Road in the early hours of the morning.

According to preliminary reports and accounts from two survivors, the students were returning from a night out at a club around 2:00 a.m.

They had hired two buses for the trip. Shortly after passing the Zaria Road Stadium, an oncoming trailer rammed into one of the buses from behind.

The impact caused the driver to lose control, and the bus crashed into an electric pole near the Farin Gada bridge. The collision was extremely severe, splitting the vehicle into parts and killing eight people on the spot, including the driver.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrived at the scene and took the bodies to a mortuary. They described the accident as “devastating,” noting that some of the victims were badly mutilated.

The two students who survived sustained only minor injuries because they were seated at the rear of the bus, where the impact was less forceful.

The second bus was not involved in the crash and safely returned its passengers to their destination.

As of now, the driver of the trailer remains unknown, as the vehicle did not stop after the crash and has not been located.
