Egypt sacks head coach Rui Vitoria following AFCON exit

The Egypt Football Association today announced the sack of national team head coach Rui Vitoria following their horrendous exit from the ongoing 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire. 

In a released statement, the Egypt FA Directors appreciated the Portuguese and his members of staff.

Furthermore, the EFA added that the national team will be spearheaded by former Al Ahly coach Mohamed Youseff.

Egypt lost Mohamed Salah after their second game of the group stage and were knocked out by Dr. Congo during the round of 16 via a penalty shootout. Egypt’s journey to their dream 8th ended with their inability to win any of their four ties in the tournament. Egypt drew all their group games by the same scorelines of 2-2 and were held to a full-time score of 1-1 in the round of 16 by Dr. Congo.

The top five ranked African nations (Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, and Egypt were all knocked out before the quarter-finals.
