Ebonyi: Nwifuru Reshuffles Cabinet, Recalls Omaka as Commissioner

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has approved a major cabinet reshuffle, appointing two new commissioners and redeploying several members of the State Executive Council in a move aimed at strengthening governance and accelerating the delivery of his administration’s agenda.

The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Ikeuwa Omebe, announced the changes while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday in Abakaliki.

According to Omebe, Prof. Omari Omaka and Hon. Sylvester Nwite have been appointed as commissioners to head the Ministries of Environment and Tertiary Education, respectively.

He explained that the reshuffle also saw several commissioners reassigned to new portfolios.

Mr. Chidiebere Onyia was moved from the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development to the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, while Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu was redeployed from the Ministry of Aviation to the Ministry of Special Projects.

Prof. Ajuka Nwogo was reassigned from the Ministry of Market Development to the Ministry of Skills Acquisition, while Mr. Okwu Udu takes over the Ministry of Market Development.

Similarly, Mr. Chinedu Nka was moved from the Ministry of Water Resources to the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, while Chief Victor Chukwu was redeployed from the Ministry of Environment to the Ministry of Water Resources.

Chief Richard Idike was transferred from the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports to the Ministry of Capital City and Urban Development, while Chief Sunday Inyima moved from the Ministry of Capital City and Urban Development to the Ministry of Project Monitoring.

Omebe said Governor Nwifuru charged the newly appointed commissioners to regard their appointments as a call to selfless service and contribute meaningfully to the successful implementation of the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda.

He added that the governor directed all affected officials to complete the handover and assumption of duties on or before the close of work on Tuesday, June 30.

Prof. Omari Omaka’s appointment marks his return to the State Executive Council after he was previously relieved of his position following allegations of his community’s involvement in a deadly communal conflict.
