Ebonyi CP Reveals Drop in Crime Index in 2025, Vows Improved Security Efforts in 2026

The Ebonyi State Police Command has revealed that the state documented a total of 913 crime cases in 2025, reflecting a comparatively low crime index within the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, made this known in a statement detailing a comprehensive breakdown of the Command’s operational activities during the year under review.

She stated that Ebonyi’s crime profile remained relatively stable when compared with several states in the northern part of the country currently grappling with heightened security challenges.

According to the Commissioner, the recorded offences included 88 cases of murder, 48 cases of armed robbery, 30 cases of rape, and 156 cases of stealing, among others.

She also confirmed that nine kidnapped victims were successfully rescued by operatives of the Command within the period.

The statement further revealed that 36 cases of unlawful possession of firearms were recorded, alongside other offences, bringing the total number of suspects arrested to 1,733.

The suspects comprised 1,624 males and 109 females, all arrested in connection with the 913 cases investigated by the Command.

“Within the 2025 period under review, the Command arrested a total of 1,733 suspects in connection with 913 cases. Of this number, 1,624 were males while 109 were females,” CP Uche-Anya stated.

She added that 462 cases, involving 822 male suspects and 22 female suspects, were thoroughly investigated and subsequently charged to court.

“The Command also investigated several major offences, including 88 cases of murder, 48 cases of armed robbery, 30 cases of rape, 156 cases of stealing, and 36 cases of unlawful possession of firearms, among others,” she said.

On arms recovery, the Commissioner disclosed that the Command recovered 35 locally fabricated single and double-barrelled pistols and long guns during the year. Other recoveries included seven pump-action rifles, six AK-47/assault rifles, and 149 rounds of assorted ammunition.

“In terms of operational successes, the Command recovered 35 locally fabricated single and double-barrelled pistols and long guns, seven pump-action rifles, six AK-47/assault rifles, and 149 rounds of assorted ammunition,” she added.

The CP also confirmed the recovery of six stolen vehicles, including a Sino truck that had been vandalised and was about to be sold as scrap. She reiterated that nine kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed through coordinated intelligence-driven operations.

CP Uche-Anya expressed deep appreciation to officers and men of the Command, sister security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents of Ebonyi State for their sustained cooperation, which she said played a crucial role in maintaining relative peace and security across the state.

She, however, pledged that the Command would consolidate on these achievements in 2026 by deepening community policing strategies, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, enhancing officers’ operational capacity through regular training, and ensuring professionalism, accountability, and civility in police-public relations.

While Ebonyi recorded relative stability, she noted that several states — including Plateau, Katsina, Zamfara, Niger, Sokoto, Kaduna, Borno, Adamawa, Kebbi, Yobe, Taraba, Benue, and Kwara — continued to face significant security challenges such as banditry, armed attacks, and mass kidnappings, underscoring the importance of sustained vigilance and proactive policing nationwide.
