DSP Commits Suicide After Arrest Over Alleged Arms Supply to Terrorists in Niger State

A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Isah Abdullahi, has taken his own life after he was accused of supplying arms to terrorists in Niger State.
The late officer was attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Force Intelligence Bureau, Zone 12, Minna, the state capital.
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that DSP Abdullahi was arrested on December 15, 2025, over allegations of illegal arms trafficking.
According to Abiodun, while investigations were ongoing, an exercise was conducted on December 16, 2025, to audit and account for missing firearms and ammunition. During the exercise, DSP Abdullahi was taken to his office for the routine arms inspection.
Tragically, during the process, he reportedly picked up a pistol from the office and shot himself in the head, dying instantly.
SP Abiodun added that police officers assigned to escort and monitor the suspect during the audit have also been arrested for negligence, as they allowed the incident to occur before investigations were concluded.
He said, “On December 16, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m., DSP Abdullahi Isah, who was arrested a day earlier over alleged illegal arms trafficking, was taken to his office for a routine arms audit.
“Unfortunately, during the exercise, he picked up a pistol from the office and shot himself in the head, resulting in his immediate death.
“Meanwhile, the police officers assigned to accompany him during the audit have been arrested for negligence of duty. Investigation is ongoing.”
DSP Abdullahi, who was in charge of the armoury, was allegedly involved in supplying weapons and ammunition to terrorists through the help of an accomplice within the state.
