Dragging ADC Case in Court Hurts Public Interest – Laolu Akande

Former presidential aide and host of Inside Sources, Laolu Akande, has said that continuing the legal tussle over the African Democratic Congress (ADC) case at the Supreme Court “does no good to the public interest.”

Akande spoke as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, anchored by Maupe Ogun-Yusuf. The programme was monitored by The News Chronicle.

Commenting on the recent Supreme Court judgement involving the ADC, Akande argued that prolonged litigation on the matter had become a distraction.

“It does no good to the public interest to continue dragging the ADC case in court,” he said. “At some point, political actors must know when to move on and focus on governance and nation-building.”

The former Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo also faulted the opposition’s political strategy ahead of the 2023 elections.

According to him, the opposition missed a crucial opportunity to frame the contest around zoning.

“The opposition missed the opportunity to say that power should go to the south and go head to head with a southern president,” Akande stated.

He suggested that such a posture would have presented a clearer ideological battle and better served the electorate, rather than the post-election legal battles that followed.

Akande, who now anchors Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Channels TV, has been a consistent voice on governance and political accountability since leaving office in May 2023.
