DMO Raises N5.86 Billion From August Savings Bonds

—

The Debt Management Office (DMO) raised N5.86 billion through the Federal Government of Nigeria Savings Bond in August 2026, although the amount was N330 million lower than the N6.19 billion recorded in July.

The August offer, which ran from August 3 to 7, comprised two year and three year bonds with interest rates of 13.963 per cent and 14.963 per cent respectively. Settlement was completed on August 12.

The two year bond attracted 1,295 subscriptions and raised N1.318 billion, while the three year instrument recorded 2,882 subscriptions and generated N4.545 billion.

The News Chronicle reports that the August proceeds remained above the N4.68 billion raised in June and N4.07 billion recorded in May, despite the lower interest rates compared with July.

Investors will receive quarterly interest payments throughout the bond period, with the principal repaid at maturity.

The FGNSB is designed to give individuals and small investors easier access to Federal Government securities without requiring the larger capital often associated with other fixed income investments.

Although the savings bond remains a relatively small part of Nigeria’s domestic debt portfolio, the programme continues to help the government raise funds locally while expanding retail participation in the debt market.
