Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed reports suggesting plans to defect to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), following Peter Obi’s exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement issued on Monday night by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the reports as “fake news” and categorically denied any plans to leave the ADC.
The statement, titled “This is FAKE NEWS,” also refuted claims that the former presidential candidate had engaged in secret talks with officials of the ADC regarding a possible defection.
Shaibu emphasized that Atiku remains fully committed to the ADC and its mission to “rescue Nigeria,” adding that there would be no distractions or deviations from that goal.
“This is FAKE NEWS. No defection. No secret talks. No shadowy meetings. No political theatrics,” the statement read, describing the reports as recycled falsehoods aimed at diverting attention from the country’s economic and security challenges.
He further stressed that Atiku would continue his political journey within the ADC, maintaining a “resolute march toward rebuilding a nation that works for all.”
