Governor Ademola Adeleke’s family has drawn wide attention online this week, with two separate moments showing the close bond between the governor, his brother Dr Adedeji Adeleke, and his children, following the governor’s re-election in Osun State.
Three of the governor’s children, Folashade, Nikos, and BRED, were seen giving Davido a standing ovation. The gesture was widely read online as recognition of the role Davido played in supporting his uncle’s campaign. Reactions to the video largely focused on the closeness between the cousins, with several viewers describing the moment as a genuine display of family affection.

After receiving his certificate of return from INEC, Governor Adeleke was filmed prostrating before his elder brother, Dr Adedeji Adeleke, the businessman widely known as Davido’s father. Dr Adeleke responded by placing his hand on the governor and praying for him and his incoming administration. The exchange, shared online by media personality Dele Momodu, was described as private and unscripted.
Many Nigerians who reacted to the clip linked the governor’s gesture to Yoruba tradition, in which prostration is a recognized way of honoring an elder. Some viewers said the moment showcased humility despite the governor’s position, while others focused on the family’s reputation for prayer and gratitude. A smaller number of commenters questioned whether the moment was staged for public view.
Davido was an active and outspoken presence throughout the Osun governorship contest. He monitored the INEC results portal directly, publicly raising concerns over delays in the upload of results from polling units. He also said that Senate President Godswill Akpabio contacted him and asked him to remove his election-related posts, a request he said he declined until official results were confirmed. Governor Adeleke went on to win the election.

That period of visible advocacy led his streamer, Davrel, to post a video summarising the week, joking that Davido had confronted the election process, INEC and various individuals in turn. Davido responded to the post by embracing the joke, replying that he would return for what he was owed, a line fans quickly turned into a running phrase.
Several social media users have since urged Davido to take the same approach into Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
