Afrobeats musician Davido is busy with political activities in Osun State, supporting the re-election campaign of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
He was appointed Head of Youth Mobilization for the campaign ahead of the August 2026 governorship election. During a visit to Osun on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, he addressed young supporters and expressed confidence in the campaign’s success.
Davido said during the engagement:
“As of this day, May 5th, 2026. We have a lot of work to do. I’m ready, and I’m eager to get more support for Mr. Governor. And before 12 pm on August 15, we shall already be thanking God, not only for a successful election but for a safe one. In Jesus name, no life will be lost.”
He also stated that he is focused on youth mobilization and voter engagement for the campaign period.
During the campaign event, some reports speculated that he was temporarily stepping away from his music career to focus on political work. However, in a separate livestream conversation on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, he said political involvement would not end his music career.
He said:
“I would still be performing if I ever chose to work for the government. That doesn’t stop anything, in my opinion.”
He added that his performance activity would only decrease in frequency if he held public office, citing former Haitian President Michel Martelly as an example of a musician who continued performing while in office.
Davido also noted that he is reconsidering long-term political ambition, stating that the experiences of other entertainers in politics have influenced his view.
Alongside his political involvement, discussions on X have also focused on a proposed celebrity boxing match between Davido and fellow Nigerian artist Wizkid.
A report circulating on X suggested that private investors like Soso Soberekon could fund a boxing event featuring both artists, with claims of a potential $ 1 billion (N1.3 Trillion) payout.
The proposal reportedly follows increased attention on celebrity boxing after recent exhibition matches involving Carter Efe and Portable.
There has been no official confirmation from either Davido or Wizkid regarding participation in any boxing event, and the proposal remains speculative.
As of this afternoon, Davido remains publicly engaged in the Osun State campaign.
