Davido Calls Erigga “Imbecile” Over Shout-out Wealth Post on X

Afrobeats star Davido and rapper Erigga are at the center of a public disagreement on X after a post about musicians and family wealth turned into a heated exchange between the two artists.

On September 1, Singer Erigga, whose real name is Erhiga Agarivbie, posted a message praising musicians who built their careers without financial help from their families. He wrote:

“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.”

The tweet

The post did not mention any artist by name. However, Davido, whose father Deji Adeleke is a businessman, responded on September 2, 2026. He wrote:

“No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top.”

He then dismissed Erigga’s post as “useless motivation” and called him an “imbecile.”

Davido did not stop there. In further posts on the same day, he wrote “Deep down who like poverty?” and also posted, “No worry o I go soon leave their music for una GO MAKE MY BILLIONS.”

Commentator Daniel Regha criticized Davido’s response. He said Davido shows insecurity despite his wealth and is quick to insult people over posts that could be ignored. Daniel Regha cited Nigerian singer Falz as an example of an artist from a wealthy background who remains humble despite his achievements. He closed his statement by saying arrogance does not suit anyone.

Some users defended Davido. One user, writing under the handle Presh_number7, said Davido had to work through hardship and dedication despite his father’s wealth, arguing that being rich does not remove the difficulty of building a music career.

Others accused Davido of overreacting. A user named IgwebuikeJ17 pointed out that Davido is not the only artist from a wealthy home, naming Falz and singer Cuppy as examples of artists who do not react this way to similar posts.

A user with the handle NurseVictoria01 sided with Davido’s argument, saying no one stopped Erigga’s own family from building wealth and that a person can pursue money without resenting those who have it.

Some users, including one posting as Shandymoney, told Erigga he should have named Davido directly if the post was meant for him.

A number of commenters speculated that a private disagreement between the two men happened before the tweet, though no report has confirmed this.

There is no publicly documented history of conflict between Davido and Erigga before this exchange. Davido has previously clashed publicly with other Nigerian artists, including a long-running dispute with Wizkid that resumed in April 2024, and an earlier conflict with Burna Boy that began around 2019 and included a physical confrontation in Ghana in early 2021. None of these disputes were linked to Erigga.

Davido has spoken before about the pressure of being seen as a “rich man’s son” in the music industry. In a past interview, he said his father’s wealth once made him feel financially inadequate despite his own success. Erigga, based in Warri, Delta State, has built his career around songs and public statements centered on struggle and self-reliance since the early 2010s. As of publication, Erigga has not posted a further response.
