The Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO will give rise to a frenzy of more significant companies looking to list their shares at the Nigerian Exchange, according to Temi Popoola, Group Managing Director and CEO of NGX Group.
The NGX Group’s MD emphasized that the IPO is a demonstration that Nigeria’s capital market can provide a much-needed link between big companies with substantial domestic capital and increase the number of investors’ ownership.
The News Chronicle reports that the development comes after Nigeriaās banking recapitalisation exercise, which saw 33 banks raise N4.65 trillion, with digital platforms playing a major role in expanding access to public offers.
Popoola revealed that NGX Invest facilitated about N2.8 trillion of the total amount raised during the recapitalisation window by connecting issuers to over 100 distribution channels comprising banks, stockbrokers and fintechs
He noted that the Dangote Refinery deal is an example of the potential of combining large corporates, modern technology and increased breadth of investors.
NGX facilitated the raising of N6.49 trillion on behalf of government and corporate issuers in 2025, according to him
āThe next big challenge is to get more of these large domestic conglomerates to understand that the stock market represents something more than a one-off IPO, providing access to long term capital, transparent valuation, liquidity and wider ownership,ā he added.
He believes the lasting impact of the Dangote IPO could be measured by how many major companies follow its path.
