The Management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, has expelled two students over alleged involvement in same-sex conduct and rusticated four others for one academic session for fighting.
The disciplinary actions were approved during the 31st Regular Meeting of the University Senate, held at the Faculty of Law Lecture Theatre, following the consideration of recommendations submitted by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
According to disciplinary letters signed by the Deputy Registrar (Academics), Mr. Eli Usman Gbadafu, and made available to the University’s Information, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, the sanctions were imposed in line with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook (Second Edition), as amended in 2025.
The two students expelled from the institution were identified as Onumoko Hamza of the Department of Biology Education (Matric No. 23L1BE0945) and Abdulazeez Lukman Eneji of the Department of Mining Engineering (Matric No. 23L1MN0088). The University stated that both students were found guilty of “gay practice,” an offence for which the institution imposed the penalty of expulsion.
Similarly, four students were rusticated for one academic session over their involvement in fighting. They are Favor Akowe of the Department of Microbiology (Matric No. 24L1MC2212), Simbiat Babamuharuna of the Department of Biology (Matric No. 25L1BL4453), Zainab Salami Omayoza of the Department of Biochemistry (Matric No. 24L1BC1277), and Sukura Bukola of the Department of Biochemistry (Matric No. 25L1BC4352).
The latest disciplinary measures come months after the university took similar action against five students in a case reported by the Nigerian Tribune. In that earlier development, CUSTECH expelled four students over offences including alleged lesbianism, physical assault and cyber-related misconduct, while another student was rusticated for one academic session over fighting and physical assault, highlighting the institution’s continued enforcement of its disciplinary regulations.
The University Management reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline, order, and a conducive environment for teaching, learning, and research.
It warned that it would continue to enforce the institution’s rules and regulations and would not hesitate to take appropriate disciplinary measures against any student found guilty of misconduct.
The management also advised students to familiarize themselves with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook and ensure their conduct aligns with the University’s established regulations.
