A violent incident in Fotokol, a border town in Cameroon, has led to deadly reprisals against Nigerian nationals, leaving one person dead and several others injured.
According to Reports obtained by The News Chronicle on Saturday, the unrest began around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday April 29 when a Cameroonian man was allegedly stabbed to death by a Nigerian suspect who remains at large.
The killing reportedly triggered retaliatory attacks targeting Nigerians in the area, resulting in the death of one Nigerian and injuries to at least seven others.
Troops from the 3 Battalion Mechanised and the 24 Task Force Brigade were swiftly deployed to the scene, successfully intervening to prevent further escalation of violence across the border communities.
The injured victims have since been evacuated to a general hospital in Ngala, Borno State, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Security authorities say efforts are ongoing to restore calm in the area, while investigations continue to apprehend the suspect and forestall further attacks on affected communities
