Communications Minister Defends Nigeria’s Data Cost

—

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani has assured Nigerians that despite widespread complaints, the cost of data in the country remains among the most affordable worldwide.
Tijani who spoke on Arise Television said the Communications Ministry  is committed to elevating telecom services, with a key focus on amplifying broadband coverage through the  National Broadband Plan.
The goal is to deploy an extensive network of 95,000 fiber cables, aiming for a commendable 70% penetration by the year 2025.
Guided by four strategic pillars, the Ministry is dedicated to building a robust tech workforce under the “Knowhow” initiative, leveraging government policies for innovation through the “Policy” pillar, and striving for extensive broadband coverage and penetration under the “Infrastructure” pillar.
Additionally, the “Innovation/Entrepreneurship” pillar emphasizes investments in local startups and fostering exports to drive economic growth.
The Ministry’s holistic approach centers on developing a skilled workforce, transforming governmental policies, enhancing telecom infrastructure, and actively supporting innovation and entrepreneurship to propel Nigeria’s economic advancement.
