College Of Education Akwanga Declares Indefinite Strike

College Of Education Akwanga

According to reports, the Academic and non-academic activities at the Nasarawa State College of Education, COE, Akwanga, have been grounded on Wednesday 2oth March as workers, under the aegis of the Joint Union, declared an indefinite strike to push for forth their demands.

It was gathered that the decision was communicated in a letter dated Tuesday, March 19, citing the institution’s Governing Council’s insensitivity and lack of response to previous ultimatums.

The union stated that the strike action became necessary following the non-implementation of promotions from 2019 to date, non-payment of backlog gratuity owed by the College, and non-payment of promotion arrears from 2015 to date.

These unresolved issues were pointed out in the letter addressed to the Chairman of the Governing Council.

Despite the strike action, the joint union noted of efforts exerted by the Commissioner of Education, Mr John Mamman, and the Jonathan Thani-led management of the College for their interventions in attempting to resolve the impasse.

The union, consisting of COEASU, SSUCOEN, and NASU, expressed appreciation for the interventions but stated the need for concrete actions to address their demands.
