A massive explosion involving a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered bus rocked the Mando Garage Motor Park in Kaduna early Sunday morning, leaving at least two luxury travel buses and several other vehicles in ruins.
The incident occurred around 4:00 AM, sending waves of panic across the busy transport hub as the force of the blast tore through the area. Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion originated from a CNG-powered bus belonging to Silver Travel & Luxury Bus. The intensity of the blast quickly spread to a second luxury bus parked nearby, causing extensive damage.
Eyewitnesses described hearing a deafening sound followed by a sudden eruption of flames and thick black smoke that engulfed the garage. The explosion also affected several smaller vehicles parked along the side of the motor park, leaving them badly damaged.
Digital creator Mahmud Ahmad Abubakar, who visited the scene, shared images of the charred remains on Sunday morning. The photos showed mangled metal frames of multi-million naira buses and widespread destruction across the park.
According to reports, the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be determined. However, possible factors being considered include gas leakage, cylinder failure, or improper handling of the CNG system.
Despite the high-intensity blast and extensive property damage, no lives were lost in the early morning incident.
The explosion has raised fresh concerns about the safety and maintenance of CNG-powered commercial vehicles, which are becoming increasingly common in Nigeria’s transport sector. As of the time of filing this report, the management of Silver Travel & Luxury Bus had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
