The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has teamed up with youth-driven group EKO 57 Support Group to intensify environmental awareness and promote responsible waste disposal across communities in Lagos State.

The Managing Director of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday.

Gbadegesin explained that the partnership was sealed during a meeting with the group’s leadership, led by social media personality Adams Kehinde, popularly known as Lege Miami, alongside Remilekun Oshodi.

He noted that the alliance is expected to significantly widen LAWMA’s advocacy campaigns, reaching all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state.

Highlighting the agency’s impact, Gbadegesin described LAWMA as a major employer, engaging more than 100,000 youths directly and indirectly across its operations. He stressed that the dynamism and innovation of young people remain critical to enhancing service delivery.

The LAWMA boss further underscored the importance of youth involvement in driving environmental consciousness and shaping positive behavioural change at the grassroots.

According to him, LAWMA remains committed to maintaining a cleaner Lagos and will continue to rally support from all stakeholders to achieve that goal.

He added that the agency has sustained close collaboration with community leaders, Community Development Associations, and Community Development Committees to deepen grassroots engagement, resolve service challenges, and promote adherence to waste management regulations.

Gbadegesin expressed confidence that the new partnership would strengthen community-based sensitisation efforts and boost environmental awareness, describing the group as a strong grassroots force.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Adams Kehinde and Mrs Remilekun Oshodi applauded LAWMA for the collaboration, emphasising that achieving a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos depends on collective effort and active youth participation.
