Chuba Akpom, Haaland, Saka, and Lauren James sweep PFA awards

The PFA Awards had a new holder last night after its grand finale. Bukayo Saka was voted PFA Young Player of the Year, the 21-year-old Arsenal forward beat teammates Gabriel Martinelli, Erling Haaland of Manchester City, Jacob Ramsey of Aston Villa, Brighton striker Evan Ferguson and Moises Caicedo, who recently joined Chelsea. His goal involvement for Arsenal last season was massive and has been capped in every one of the 38 games of Arsenal two seasons in a row.

Despite her World Cup disappointment since the quarter-final game against Nigeria, Lauren James was voted the best player in the women’s version of the PFA young player by the Professional Football Association.

Chuba Akpom was voted the PFA best player of the Championship following his 29-goal involvement in the second tier of the English Premier League last season.

City’s talisman, Erling Haaland, becomes the new older PFA player’s player of the year, The City talisman dethroned and beat teammate Kevin De Bruyne, Arsenal’s duo Saka and Martin Odegard, and Harry Kane to secure the prestigious award. The City striker scored an incredible 52 goals in all competitions after a record-breaking first season at the Etihad.

Haaland broke the single-season Premier League goal scoring record in 2022/23 with 36 goals in just 35 games, while his 44-goal involvement equaled the highest-ever total set by Thierry Henry.

Arsenal and Manchester City players dominated the PFA team of the year, Manchester City 5 players made the team, Arsenal 4 players, and one player each from Newcastle and Tottenham.
