Cholera Outbreak: Borno Police Restrict Movement for Statewide Sanitation Exercise

The Borno State Police Command has announced the full enforcement of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026, as part of efforts to curb the spread of cholera following reported cases in parts of Maiduguri and surrounding communities.
In a statement issued on Friday night, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, directed the enforcement of the exercise, which will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
The exercise is being conducted in collaboration with the Borno State Environmental Protection Agency (BOSEPA) to promote environmental cleanliness and prevent the further spread of the contagious disease across the state.
According to the Command, maintaining a clean environment remains one of the most effective ways to prevent cholera and other sanitation related illnesses. Residents have therefore been urged to participate actively by cleaning their homes, business premises, drainage systems, and surrounding areas.
To ensure compliance, police personnel and other relevant stakeholders will be deployed to strategic locations across the state during the sanitation period. The Command advised residents to avoid unnecessary movement and cooperate with enforcement officers throughout the exercise.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and maintaining public order, while calling on citizens to support government efforts aimed at containing the cholera outbreak.
Residents were also encouraged to report emergencies or security concerns through the nearest police station or the Command’s emergency lines: 08068075581 and 08023473293.
