In a significant confrontation in the Lake Chad region, the Chadian Defense and Security Forces reported that they killed 96 Boko Haram fighters.
This announcement was made by General Issakha Acheikh, the military spokesperson, in a formal statement on Sunday night.
The clash between the Chadian military and Boko Haram fighters proved intense. As the military engaged with the insurgents, they managed to capture and recover 107 individual firearms and three larger, collective weapons.
Additionally, six canoes, which Boko Haram fighters were using for transportation and launching attacks, were destroyed during the operation.
The confrontation left eleven other Boko Haram fighters wounded, as General Acheikh noted in his report. However, the battle came with significant costs for the Chadian forces.
Tragically, 15 Chadian soldiers lost their lives in the clash, and 32 others were injured. The wounded soldiers have since been transported to Ndjamena, the capital, where they are receiving urgent medical care.
The Chadian Defense and Security Forces continue their campaign to counter Boko Haram activities within the Lake Chad area, where the insurgents have used the complex terrain to stage attacks on security forces and local communities.
This latest engagement highlights the ongoing challenges and the heavy toll faced by the Chadian military as they work to secure the region.
