The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has apprehended six of its officials for allegedly soliciting and collecting bribes while performing their official duties.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, made this known on Saturday in Abuja, revealing that the arrests were carried out by the Corps Marshal’s Special Intelligence Squad.
According to him, the FRSC maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward bribery, corruption, or any act capable of tarnishing the Corps’ image, emphasizing that maintaining institutional integrity remains non-negotiable.
“The personnel were arrested in two patrol teams operating under the Gwagwalada and Abaji Unit Commands in the Federal Capital Territory. A total of N39,600 was recovered from the officers, allegedly extorted from unsuspecting motorists,” he said.
Mohammed added that members of the Abaji patrol team were caught using a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator to illegally collect money from road users.
He noted that the affected officers would face dismissal after the conclusion of internal investigations, in accordance with the Corps’ disciplinary procedures.
The Corps Marshal also appealed to the public to refrain from offering bribes to FRSC operatives and urged citizens to report any officer who demands money from them.
He encouraged Nigerians to make use of the FRSC mobile app or the Corps’ toll-free emergency number, 112, to report such unethical behaviour.
