BREAKING: Tinubu Seeks $516m Loan for Ambitious Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway

President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve a fresh $516.3 million loan to fund a flagship infrastructure project linking Nigeria’s north and south.

The request, contained in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during Thursday’s plenary, seeks approval to secure financing from Deutsche Bank for the ambitious 1,000-kilometer Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway.

Tinubu said the proposed highway is central to his administration’s legacy infrastructure drive, designed to boost connectivity, unlock rural economies, and accelerate trade across regions.

He urged lawmakers to fast-track approval to keep the project on schedule.

Akpabio subsequently referred the request to the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, directing it to report back within one week.

The Sokoto–Badagry corridor has drawn growing attention in recent months, with industry stakeholders and engineering groups touting its potential to reshape logistics, deepen regional integration, and stimulate nationwide economic activity.
