The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation with Germany in areas of mutual interest to promote economic growth, regional stability and shared prosperity.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s spokesperson, Mr Kimiebi Ebienfa, ahead of a high-level meeting with Germany’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul.
According to the statement, the bilateral consultations, scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, are aimed at strengthening the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Germany and exploring new areas of cooperation.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu said Nigeria highly values its strategic partnership with Germany and remains committed to expanding collaboration in sectors of shared interest for the mutual benefit of both countries.
“Nigeria looks forward to productive engagements that will further consolidate the existing friendship and open new avenues for collaboration in support of inclusive economic growth, regional stability and shared prosperity,” she said.
The minister expressed confidence that Wadephul’s visit would further strengthen the excellent relations between both countries and reaffirm their shared commitment to addressing common global challenges through dialogue and partnership.
She described the relationship between Nigeria and Germany as an enduring partnership spanning several decades, built on mutual respect, shared democratic values, economic cooperation and a common commitment to promoting regional and global peace, security, stability and sustainable development.
According to her, Germany remains one of Nigeria’s foremost strategic partners in Europe, with cooperation covering trade and investment, renewable energy, climate action, technical assistance, education, healthcare, migration, agriculture, digital innovation and security.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu said the bilateral consultations would provide an opportunity for both ministers to review the state of Nigeria-Germany relations, assess progress in implementing existing bilateral agreements and identify new areas of cooperation.
She added that discussions would focus on expanding economic and commercial partnerships, attracting greater German investment into Nigeria’s priority sectors, strengthening collaboration in renewable energy and green development, promoting vocational education and skills development, and enhancing cooperation in science, technology and innovation.
