Breaking: NFF and Jose Peseiro Part Ways

The Nigeria Football Federation has officially ended its working relationship with Jose Peseiro, who served as the national team head coach. This decision comes after the completion of Peseiro’s contract.

Despite his notable achievements, such as guiding the Super Eagles to their first final in 11 years during the 2023 AFCON, both parties mutually agreed to part ways after nearly two years of collaboration.

Peseiro shared the news on his official Facebook page, expressing his gratitude to the NFF, former president Amaju Pinnick, current president Ibrahim Gusau, and others involved.

“Yesterday, we concluded our contract with the NFF. It was a pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles. It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. We feel a sense of fulfillment.”

He reflected on his tenure with pride, emphasizing the dedication, sacrifice, and enthusiasm invested during his 22-month tenure.

“We would like to express our gratitude to Sir Amaju Pinnick (the president who signed us), President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, Secretary Dayo Enebi, the NFF, all the Staff, and especially all the PLAYERS, with whom leading has been a great pleasure.”

“Guys, we are thankful; it has been a privilege to be part of this family. We will miss you, but we will always be there for you, regardless of where you are. A big hug to all of you.”

Throughout his time as head coach, Peseiro oversaw Nigeria in 22 matches, achieving 11 victories, 4 draws, and 7 defeats. Notably, Nigeria reached the 2023 AFCON final, where they were defeated by Ivory Coast, the host nation.
