According to reports, seventeen members of the House of Representatives have defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), in a dramatic political shake-up announced on the floor of the House on Tuesday.
The defections were formally declared during plenary, signalling a fresh wave of realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development comes barely 24 hours after former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, and ex-New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) flagbearer, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, also moved from the ADC to the NDC, further reshaping the emerging political landscape.
In a related development, Leke Abejide also announced his departure from the ADC, but defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding another layer to the shifting alliances in the legislature.
Those who crossed over to the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, Munachim Umezuruike, Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene and Abdulhakeem Ado.
The mass defections underscore intensifying political realignments as parties reposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
