Boko Haram terrorists have attacked and overrun a military camp in Kukawa town, located in the far northern region of Borno State.
The assault, which began at around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, saw insurgents approaching the camp from multiple directions. Security sources reported that most of the soldiers stationed at the camp were forced to withdraw, allowing the attackers to breach the base.
The insurgents set military vehicles on fire and looted weapons before leaving the area by daybreak. Soldiers later returned to find the camp heavily damaged, with several vehicles burned and weapons missing.
This marks the second attack on Kukawa within the past month. In a previous assault in February, Nigerian troops repelled the insurgents, killing several of them.
The military’s response during that incident was publicly praised by Karta Maina Ma’aji Lawan, the lawmaker representing Kukawa Local Government Area in the Borno State House of Assembly.
Lawan confirmed the latest attack, stating that while calm had been restored in other military formations, the Kukawa camp had unfortunately been overrun. Further details on the situation are expected as developments continue
