In a recent address to the Southern Borno Students Association, Borno State University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Babagana Gutti, urged students on Thursday to avoid harmful practices and behaviors that could negatively impact their academic and personal lives on campus.
The address was part of a congratulatory visit by the association’s Borno State University (BOSU) chapter, led by their president, Andara Adamu.
During the visit, Prof. Gutti expressed gratitude for the large turnout of students who had taken the time to come and personally congratulate him on his appointment as the university’s second substantive Vice-Chancellor.
He commended the students’ commitment to campus unity and their dedication to fostering a sense of community and student welfare.
Prof. Gutti took the opportunity to address some pressing issues affecting students on campus, with a particular focus on transportation and water supply.
He acknowledged that the transportation difficulties many students experience, especially during closing hours, when getting to and from the campus can be challenging.
Prof. Gutti assured the students that the university administration is aware of these challenges and actively working on solutions that would soon ease transportation for students.
Water supply on campus, according to the Vice Chancellor, is another pressing issue that the administration intends to address.
Prof. Gutti acknowledged that inadequate water access has been a longstanding concern for students and pledged to implement a reliable, solar-powered water system.
He explained that this new system will ensure a steady, 24-hour water supply across all residential blocks and units on campus, providing much-needed relief to students and staff.
While discussing campus life, Prof. Gutti emphasized the importance of academic focus and responsible use of technology.
He specifically warned students about the potential distractions posed by excessive use of mobile phones, which he described as a major hindrance to academic success.
He encouraged students to prioritize their studies and use their time wisely to achieve their educational goals.
In response, Andara Adamu, President of the Southern Borno Students Association, congratulated Prof. Gutti on his appointment and praised his dedication to student welfare.
Adamu also extended appreciation to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for approving Prof. Gutti’s selection as Vice Chancellor, highlighting the governor’s commitment to the growth and development of Borno State University.
Adamu assured Prof. Gutti of the association’s continued support in addressing student issues and thanked him for his openness in discussing these critical matters.
The meeting concluded with a sense of optimism, as both students and university administration committed to working together to create a supportive and enriching campus environment.
