Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has intensified efforts to attract private-sector investment, holding high-level talks with prospective investors in the trade, mining and pharmaceutical sectors to drive industrial development in the state.
During a meeting at the office of the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC) in Abuja on Monday, Zulum met with representatives of the Jampur Group, an international conglomerate with interests in shipping, power, mining and trade.
The company, which has operated in Nigeria for more than 20 years, expressed interest in establishing a Tom Brown production facility in Maiduguri and a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Borno State.
According to the company, the proposed investments are expected to help tackle malnutrition, improve child nutrition and strengthen healthcare services in the state.
Zulum assured the investors of his administration’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment, pledging land allocation and other incentives to facilitate the successful implementation of the projects.
“Borno State is ready to provide the necessary support for investors. We will make land available and offer every necessary incentive required to ensure the successful establishment of the proposed pharmaceutical manufacturing company and other related industrial projects,” the governor said.
He also highlighted Borno’s strategic location, describing the state as a commercial gateway to the Northeast and neighbouring countries.
“Borno occupies a strategic position that gives investors access to the entire Northeast market as well as five neighbouring countries. Goods produced here have enormous market potential, making our state an attractive destination for investment,” Zulum added.
The meeting was attended by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate; the Director-General of PVAC, Dr Abdul Mukhtar; and the Country Manager of Jampur Group, Mohammad Asad Javeed.
Zulum was accompanied by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Prof. Baba Malam Gana, and the Special Adviser on Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr. Baba Bukar Gujibawu.
