Borno Police Arrest Eight Suspects, Recover Large Cache of Drugs in Maiduguri

The Borno State Police Command has arrested eight suspects and recovered a large quantity of illicit drugs during an operation in Maiduguri, as part of its ongoing efforts to curb crime and criminality across the state.
The arrest was carried out on Friday, January 16, 2026, at about 4:00pm by operatives of the Command’s Crack Squad, following credible intelligence.
The operation took place along Baga Road, Maiduguri, where eight male suspects, aged between 18 and 25 years, were apprehended.
According to the Police, the suspects were found in possession of various hard drugs and other illicit substances. Items recovered include 700 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 10 cards of Tramadol tablets, and 1,500 tablets of Exol.
The suspects and the recovered exhibits are currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing. The Police said the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, reaffirmed its commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements, particularly those involved in drug peddling and related offences.
The Command also urged members of the public to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information to enhance public safety and security.
