Borno State has recorded a major milestone in Nigeria’s technology sector with the unveiling of what organisers described as the country’s first indigenous humanoid robot, marking a significant step in advancing artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital innovation.
The landmark event was organised by the Borno State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (BICTDA) in collaboration with Maxzeeton Technology and the Centre for Transparency, Advocacy and Accountability Initiative (CATAI).
The event also featured the graduation of participants from the six-month Innovative Technologies Bootcamp, the onboarding of 100 beneficiaries into the DAAi and SHECODE Fellowship Programmes at Kashim Ibrahim University, and the launch of new initiatives focused on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Data Analytics, Software Development, and Digital Innovation.
Speaking at the event on Tuesday, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of BICTDA, Engr. Mohammed Ahmed Kabir Wanori, described the occasion as a defining moment in Borno State’s digital transformation journey.
He said the achievement reflects the impact of collaboration between government, the private sector, academia, and development partners in driving innovation.
Quoting renowned computer scientist Alan Kay, Wanori said, “The best way to predict the future is to invent it,” adding that the milestone demonstrates the commitment of the Borno State Government under Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to digital transformation, youth empowerment, and technological development.
He noted that the unveiling of the humanoid robot and other initiatives highlight Nigeria’s growing capacity to design, develop, and deploy indigenous technological solutions capable of competing globally.
According to him, BICTDA remains committed to expanding digital literacy, strengthening ICT infrastructure, promoting innovation, and equipping young people with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy.
The organisers described the event as a major achievement for Borno State, reaffirming its ambition to become one of Nigeria’s leading hubs for technology and innovation while celebrating the contributions of graduating students, fellows, trainers, mentors, partners, and other stakeholders who made the initiative possible.
