Fresh revelations have emerged about the 176 residents abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, as suspected Boko Haram terrorists reportedly demand N20 million ransom for each victim, amounting to N3.52 billion.
Community sources told Newsmen that negotiations between the terrorists and representatives of the Kwara State Government have stalled because authorities are unwilling to meet the ransom demand.
According to Reports obtained by The News Chronicle, the insurgents contacted intermediaries and placed the demand on families and the government, but talks have not produced any agreement.
Residents also alleged that soldiers deployed to the area are stationed at a primary school in Woro but have not entered the forest where the abductees are believed to be held.
Meanwhile, families of the victims say the uncertainty has caused deep anguish, fearing that some captives, including pregnant women and children, may have died due to harsh conditions in the bush.
The victims were abducted during a deadly February 3, 2026 attack on the community, which reportedly left dozens dead and many others missing. Authorities say they are working with security agencies to verify the identities of those seen in a video released by the terrorists, but no rescue breakthrough has been announced.
