The Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mrs. Lami Ogenyi, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ado State Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The outcome of the party’s primary election was announced on Thursday in Makurdi by the Returning Officer, Mr. Abraham Akaater, while presenting the results to the Governorship/State Assembly Primary Election Committee.
Akaater disclosed that Ogenyi recorded the highest number of votes cast during the exercise, defeating three other aspirants to clinch the party’s ticket.
According to him, the deputy speaker secured 7,132 votes, while Mr. Mark Ochoga garnered 264 votes. Mr. Dickson Otokpa polled 180 votes, and Mr. Godswill Iduh received 143 votes.
He further revealed that a total of 8,767 votes were recorded in the primary election.
The returning officer subsequently declared Ogenyi winner of the contest, stating that she fulfilled all conditions stipulated in the Electoral Act as well as the APC guidelines governing the exercise.
